Taxpayers Defeated a Proposal to Make it Easier to Raise Property Tax Rates

The County Council voted on July 23 6 vs. 5 against a proposed amendment to change the Charter requirement for a unanimous vote to increase the property tax rate.  The Taxpayers League testified before the Charter Review Commission and the Council against the proposed change, and wrote advocacy positions in MoCo360 and the Civic Federation Newsletter (pg.21).   Our argument that voters recently reapproved the unanimous vote requirement in the 2020 election carried the day.
